This piece has been a long time coming. I think the idea of painting buildings and attempting to roughly get a semi-accurate perspective is intimidating. I am constantly taking photos of "the unseen" areas of the city. The alleys that aren't totally lit and maybe with a broken fire escape or something. I have been trying to understand why I would be drawn to something like that. Its not like its "pretty" scenery, but something draws me in still.
I hope to gain a little understanding of myself working with the "in-betweens" in this series. If you're familiar with Ziegler Park in Over-the-Rhine, then you know how popular it has become since it opened last year. This painting is set in that park. I'm enjoying the fact that you cant see anything about the park in the painting (minus the artificial rock my son is sitting on). Its almost like a discovery of something that most people would typically walk right past. Almost like there is adventure in the enticement and a discovery to be made. |
